The scouts recently went on sail camp and wow… what an adventure!
We set off with four
sailboats and two powerboats. The wind was great and we made good time. We set
up camp on South Stradbroke, sand was everywhere but we got used to it.
In the morning everybody (well almost everyone) rose early to view the beautiful
sunrise over the eastern sea. We also made as many jumps down the amazing sand
dune as we could before setting off for North Stradbroke. All the boats sailed
beautifully for the first half of the day but for the second half things became
a bit trickier. The wind was strong and sand banks seemed to pop up everywhere.
Baloo and Warringa were kept busy with rescues. After we arrived we made an
evening trek to the summit and watched a stunning sunset.
Day three…. the leisure day and also Karmen’s 13th birthday. We went swimming,
sailing, donuting, dam building, crab hunting and mud wallowing…. It was great!
After an exhausting day of fun we settled round a roaring campfire with songs,
skits and laughter. Ulysses visited and taught us some new (old) camp songs to
add to our repertoire.
After a brekky of pancakes and maple syrup (thanks caterers!) we packed up and
set off for home. The sailing was great the weather was perfect and even the
Scruffy was flying! What a way to finish.
